About Travel Trailers and how we check our facts

Travel Trailers explains static caravans — holiday homes on UK holiday parks — in plain English, for people thinking of buying one and for people who already own one.

What this site is

An independent guide: what a static caravan is, how holiday parks work, buying new or used, the licence agreement, running costs, VAT, letting, selling, maintenance and safety, complaints, and how the rules differ around the UK. Alongside the guides there’s a running-cost calculator, a buying checklist, key figures, a glossary, common questions and a directory of park operators and manufacturers.

Travel Trailers is an independent guide. It is not owned by, or connected to, any holiday park operator, caravan manufacturer, dealer or trade body. We are not lawyers or financial advisers, and nothing here is personal advice. If a lot of money is at stake or you’re in a dispute, please get help.

How every guide is researched

  • Sources we have read. We work from legislation, government and regulator guidance, and the published guidance of consumer and industry bodies. Each guide lists the pages it was written from, and all of them are collected on our sources page.
  • Dated checks. Each guide shows when it was last checked against its sources. Figures that change live in one key figures table so they can be updated in one place.
  • Our own words. We rewrite what we read to be clearer. Where we use public sector information we follow the Open Government Licence. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
  • If we can’t verify it, we leave it out. Where the position is uncertain, or depends on your own agreement, we say so.

About the calculator and checklist

The running-cost calculator adds up the figures you give it — it has no built-in prices. The buying checklist is drawn from the guides. Both are prompts to help you think it through, not advice.

How the site is paid for

The site earns a little from affiliate links — mainly the Amazon.co.uk links on our owner’s kit shelf. That never changes what the guides say, and no company pays to appear in our directory. Read our affiliate disclosure.
